Shell
A shell is a utility program that enables the user to interact with the operating
system. Often a shell provides a set of menus (rather than a command line) from which a
user can make selections. Commands entered by the user are passed by the shell to the
operating system which executes them. The results are then passed back by the shell and
displayed for the user. A shell can be any easy- to-use user interface.
